Selva is a coastal comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain, located between the mountain range known as the Serralada Transversal or Puigsacalm and the Costa Brava (part of the Mediterranean coast). Unusually, it is divided between the provinces of Girona and Barcelona, with Fogars de la Selva being part of Barcelona province, and all other municipalities falling inside Girona province. Also unusually, its capital, Santa Coloma de Farners, is no longer among its larger municipalities, with the coastal towns of Blanes and Lloret de Mar having far surpassed it in size.
Selva borders the comarques of Maresme, Vallès Oriental, Osona, Garrotxa, Gironès, and Baix Empordà.

Selva is in the southern part of the Costa Brava. The coastline is a granite massif which gives it is rugged character, with steep cliffs plunging into the sea. Among the famous seaside towns are Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar. The so-called Selva depression opens up between this mountainous block and the Montseny and Guilleries massifs to the south-west and is on all the major routes between the Barcelona and Girona regions. There are important towns in the hinterland too: Santa Coloma de Farners, the capital, Hostalric, Breda, Arbúcies, Sant Hilari Sacalm, Anglès and Caldes de Malavella. The name Selva refers to the thick woodlands that cover much of the countryside. The river Ter crosses the northern part and forms the Susqueda reservoir. Most of Selva, which was part of the county of Girona, was the domain of the powerful viscounts of Cabrera (Montsoriu castle, Hostalric). Banditry was common in the 16th and 17th centuries. Exploitation of the woodland (cork and chestnut-wood hoops for barrels), agriculture and seafaring activities (fishing, coastal shipping) has been complemented since the mid 19th century with a major cork industry. Breda has been an important ceramic producing centre, and craftwork in wood is to be found in Sant Hilari and Osor. Tourism and second homes have become very important in recent years, especially on the coast (Lloret has an exceptional range of hotel accommodation). There are spa resorts at Santa Coloma, Caldes de Malavella and Sant Hilari.
